Arriving in the United States in 1993 from Pune, India, Deepa Deshmukh held a degree in Food Science and Nutrition and a strong desire to serve and empower people to maintain good health through a nutritious diet. Deepa’s first exposure to the field of nutrition occurred while volunteering at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. In her role, where she taught nutrition to the most vulnerable population – families living in shelters with chronic health conditions, Deepa realized that these individuals lacked both an understanding of nutrition and access to nutritious food.
This experience sparked Deepa’s mission to help people, particularly those dealing with diabetes and other autoimmune health challenges. She aimed to provide quick easy meal plans and enable them to prepare and enjoy delicious, affordable and nutritionally-sound meal.
During her practice, Deepa also observed that many of her patients exhibited signs of nutritional deficiencies, such as hair loss, dark skin patches, joint pain, headaches, acid reflux, gas, bloating, cravings, weight gain, and poor sleep. She herself was diagnosed with Vitamin D3 and iron deficiency, leading her to realize that a good, clean-label vitamin supplement at an affordable price was not available in the market. This insight motivated her to launch the Power Me Up (PMU) supplement line.
